The Cure Blindness Project is a US-registered non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating preventable blindness worldwide. Orotta College of Medicine and Health Sciences, a governmental institution, is mandated to train high and mid-level health professionals in Eritrea. OCMHS offers a wide range of medical specializations, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pathology, Radiology and Imaging, and trains Medical Doctors, various specialized nurses, pharmacists, clinical science experts with Bachelor of Science degrees, and diploma programs for mid-level health professionals.
Given the significant shortage of ophthalmologists and the burden of eye public health issues in the country, Orotta College initiated the Ophthalmology residency program three years ago. Currently, fourteen candidates are enrolled in different years of this program. The college is well-equipped with three teaching faculty ophthalmologists and possesses the necessary space, infrastructure, and administrative staff to effectively support this training program.
SCOPE OF WORK
Faculty and consultant ophthalmologist position has a combined responsibility of clinical practice, reaching, research and service. This role needs to be an expert in diagnosing and treating eye diseases related to one (preferably Retina or with strong Glaucoma Surgery training) or more subspeciality. This role is responsible for teaching Ophthalmology residents and involved in research.
