COECSA has succeeded in attracting and retaining partners especially from eye care fraternity.The 2019 Training the Trainers (TTT) was held at the best western coral beach hotel, Dar es Salaam Tanzania this is collaboration between The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) and The College of Ophthalmologists of East Central and Southern Africa (COECSA). The aims of the project by 2020 are to:
- Establish a TTT ethos across the whole region (2013-14)
- Develop a COECSA Lead and Faculty Members (2015-16)
- Establish a National TTT Team of Lead+Faculty+Facilitator in each country (2017-18)
- Support each National TTT Team in cascading TTT and training processes across their country (2019-2020)
This program has been an ongoing project from 2013. This is the 7th year of a planned 8 year collaboration, this is in line with the COECSA’s strategic plan 2017-2020 , The course was lead by Melanie Corbett, Chair of Education, RCOphth; and Dr Anne Musika of Makerere University, Uganda TTT Lead, COECSA, 21 invited delegates attended the course, from ten countries (Kenya 3, Uganda 3, Zambia 3, Rwanda 1, Tanzania 1, Malawi 3, Burundi 1, Mozambique 2, Ethiopia 1, Zimbabwe 2).
